After more than two years of seeking medical treatment for various different symptoms, I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. I had been tested for Lyme on two separate occasions but the test was negative. After hours of countless research, I learned that Lyme Disease is insidious and false negative tests are common. 56% of patients with Lyme disease test negative using the two-tiered testing system recommended by the CDC.
It all started when my husband and I purchased our first home a little over two years ago. Our cozy little home was nestled on 3 acres of beautiful land in New Hampshire. Little did I know, that all that land would turn out to be a breeding ground for ticks with Lyme Disease. Less than a month after moving in strange symptoms started and progressed over the course of the next two years.
Below is the list of my personal Lyme Disease Symptoms:
- Rash all over my body
- Severe Joint Pain
- Mood Swings
- Muscle Spasms
- Stiff Neck
- Migraine Headaches
- Contact Dermatitis
- Muscle Flutters
- Palsy of my right hand
- Joint Inflammation
- Eye Floaters
- Shortness of Breath
- Rapid Heart Beat
Symptoms of Lyme disease closely resemble those of other illnesses and for this reason, Lyme is often misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed. Lyme victims are commonly misdiagnosed with other illnesses, such as:
- juvenile idiopathic arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome, Multiple sclerosis, and arthritis
Most common symptoms of Lyme include the bulls eye rash, facial palsy, and joint inflammation.
